Identity

A requirement of our programme is to be fluent in English and/or Te Reo Māori. Please feel free to email apply@teachersinstitute.org.nz if you would like to discuss your unique circumstances.

Please review the Teaching Council's English language requirements here and provide evidence of your English language competency if your undergraduate degree does not meet their requirements.

Education

TTI can only enrol domestic students at this point. It is possible that enrolment for international students will be possible in future years.

Aroha mai. We're sorry you don't meet the eligibility criteria for our programme. Currently, we can only accept students with a level 7 or above qualification. Please feel free to contact us on info@teachersinstitute.org.nz if you'd like to discuss your unique circumstances.

To be eligible to enrol in this Programme you will need to apply for an International Qualifications Assessment (IQA) from NZQA.

This process can take some time, so TTI recommends you begin the process as soon as possible. This process is independent of TTI.

The PGDip Teaching (Secondary, Schools-based) is an initial teacher education programme leading to registration as a teacher in Aotearoa New Zealand. As such, only students who do not already hold a qualification that would allow them to register as a secondary school teacher in Aotearoa New Zealand are eligible

For the 2025 academic year TTI is only accepting applications for students applying to teach in the subjects listed. Students will be able to enrol to teach other subjects in future years.

Police Vetting

TTI is unable to enrol any person to an initial teacher education programme who is been convicted of an offence listed in the relevant legislation.

Please download this form, complete Sections 2 and 3 and upload it with your application.
